Born in Spain's Basque Country, baked here in Taketa.
Deeply golden on the outside, softly creamy within.
Made to bring out the richness of carefully selected cheese and fresh cream.
San Sebastián, the home of Basque cheesecake, lies along a pilgrimage route to the sacred city of Santiago de Compostela.
The name of the saint at the end of that route also survives in Taketa. The Santiago Bell, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, was once carefully kept at Oka Castle. How the bell came to these mountains of Kyushu remains a mystery.
A distant pilgrimage route and this Japanese castle town: enjoy your cheesecake as you ponder the mystery of their intertwined histories.
